About Jeffrey Nall, Ph.D.
Jeffrey Nall, Ph.D. is an author, speaker and interdisciplinary scholar. Dr. Nall teaches courses in philosophy, humanities, and gender studies. He has and continues to teach at institutions including Indian River State College, Polk State College, the University of Central Florida, and Florida Atlantic University. He is the author of Feminism and the Mastery of Women and Childbirth: an Ecofeminist Examination of the Cultural Maiming and Reclaiming of Maternal Agency During Childbirth (Academica Press, 2014). Nall holds a Master of Liberal Studies from Rollins College and a Ph.D. in Comparative Studies, with a concentration on Public Intellectualism and Feminism, Gender, and Sexuality, from Florida Atlantic University (FAU). He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies from FAU, and a BA in Humanities from Rollins College.
Dr. Nall’s has been invited to give lectures, talks, sermons, and scholarly presentations on a wide-range of topics in more than 20 towns and cities, from Miami to Jacksonville, to Chattanooga, and San Jose. Topics of past talks and presentations have ranged from ethical eating, peace and justice, the representation of women and childbirth in popular culture, the problem of militarism, the history of the separation of church and state, stereotyping the poor, the revolutionary aspects of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King's philosophical vision, to understanding feminist theory and activism.

Indicative of his interdisciplinary background, Nall has published scholarly works in a range of peer-reviewed journals spanning academic fields: sociology, religion, popular culture, medical humanities, and gender. Since 2003, Nall has also published interviews, news reports, and analyses in a variety of independent current-event publications including Z Magazine, Toward Freedom, IMPACT press, Clamor, Truth Out and The Humanist.
Before becoming a professor Nall spent six years, from 2001-2007, as a freelance features journalist for Florida Today. During this time he reviewed, interviewed, and wrote about countless local and national artists including Slipknot, Damian Marley, Otep, Ellery, Kittie, Richie Havens, Slayer, System of a Down, Inner Circle, Bad Religion, Mudvayne, Emma's Revolution, Nonpoint, Ginn Blossoms, Static-X, K-os, and many others. His work also appeared in Brevard County publications including Brevard Live and El Playero. From 2002 to 2004 Nall also created, edited and published a print indie-magazine, The Creative Advocate, which was dedicated to alternative music and arts in Eastern Central Florida.
In the lead-up to the 2003 Iraq war, Nall, then a student at Rollins College, co-founded the Brevard County, Florida-based peace group, Patriots for Peace. During this time he helped organize a series of peace demonstrations in Melbourne, Fl, met with elected officials, was invited to speak on activism, war and peace, and eventually participated in organizing a variety of grass-roots peace protests throughout the state of Florida.
Nall has since remained an active member of the peace activist community, working to educate the public about the merits of nonviolent conflict resolution and the perils of militaristic violence. As an engaged citizen Nall also participates in grassroots campaigns to promote civil liberties and a just society. He also actively strive to bring ethical decision making and practices into his family life and community.
